Why Macadamia Nuts are Awesome for a Keto Diet

If you conduct a quick internet search on the ideal ratio of fat to protein for your ketosis diet, you'll probably see a few different numbers floating around, and you'll quickly realize that macadamia nuts are the BEST NUTS EVER!

Not only do macadamia nuts contain a ton of fat, but they're also reasonable in carbohydrates and protein. The weirdest thing (in this author's opinion) about adopting the keto diet is the reduction in carbohydrates AND protein required for the diet to flourish.

You'll often see advice that suggests you should try to consume around 65 percent to 75 percent of your daily calories on fat calories while also virtually eliminating carbs and eating the rest of your calories in protein.

Here's a label from my personal favorite brand of macadamia nuts (MacFarms Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts with Sea Salt):

Notice the outrageously and deliciously high amount of fat in macadamia nuts compared to its protein and carbohydrates.

Interestingly, macadamia nuts show up on a "worst nuts" list on health.com:

"Ounce for ounce, macadamia nuts (10 to 12 nuts; 2 grams protein, 21 grams fat) and pecans (18 to 20 halves; 3 grams protein, 20 grams fat) have the most calories—200 each—along with the lowest amounts of protein and the highest amounts of fats."

But that makes them great for keto! The Spruce has an excellent chart of nut calories and nutritional info, and you'll see that macadamia nuts have reasonable carbohydrates and a great amount of fat.

It's easy to go overboard with your carbohydrates with certain nuts, too, even if you eat the fatty ones. For example, cashews are delicious and have a decent amount of fat, but the nut's carbohydrate levels are practically on par with its fat content. Definitely not a great keto nut!

One question you might find yourself asking is: How many macadamia nuts is a quarter cup anyway?

From what I've been able to determine, you can eat around 10 or 11 macadamia nuts and consume the approximate number of calories listed in that nutrition facts image I listed above. I find that macadamia nuts often get sliced into halves and are sometimes a bit bigger than average, so it's important to kind of keep a loose tally on those nuts if you're worried about calories.
